The title may be a bit misleading to some, thinking this will be all about the kids, and PTA battles. While there is a delightful section that explains the Blacklisting, the book as a whole is more about the things that every woman has faced and dealt with at one time or another.Lela Davidson, the author of "Blacklisted From the PTA" could be your neighbor, your best friend, or you. Reading this book is like reading a friend's blog, or even her diary. Lela has an interesting life, living in several places that gave her a varied background to draw from. Humorous, with a touch of irony or sarcasm, touching, but realistic, this book is a collection of events in the author's life that will have you nodding your head as you recognize a day from your own life.
Well written and entertaining, My only negative is that it has no plot or specific story line, it is just a collection of anecdotes, and I felt it was like reading Facebook, a blog, or her posts to some other social media. This may be an emerging style, but I haven't fully adjusted, and when I pick up a book to read, I feel a little lost without a storyline tying everything together. But this is just my personal preference, and not intended to be critical of the quality of the writing.

Full disclosure, I know Lela. She lives around the corner and we have kids in the same grade at school. I've just finished this book. I sat next to my husband on the beach, reading this on my kindle. I laughed out loud at one point, snorted many other times and read chunks aloud to him. I think it was more entertaining than his Fortune magazine. I loved this book, and will tell everyone I know to read it. It's a very funny and truthful view of being a mom and a wife these days. All I want to know now is, who has the pole Lela ?
Moms will see themselves, and their families, in many of these situations. And while all of these adventures may not have been funny in the moment, Lela Davidson has made them downright hilarious AND quick to read.
Her witty essays cut to the chase, and never leave you bored along the way. No other writing on parenthood has made me laugh out loud the way these do.
I have three children, a husband, molded food in my refrigerator, and a stack of paperwork leaking out of my in-box. Like Lela, I have been through labor, dropped a jaw at over-the-top birthday parties, and attempted (unsuccessfully) to clean out my cosmetic drawer. Unlike Lela, I hope the PTA in my child's future school really, really likes me.
But if, at the first meeting, they act all crazy and sign me up for baking muffins AND 50 hours a week of volunteer time, I'll quietly pay my dues, and sneak off to the bathroom stall - this book firmly in hand.
Before I became a parent, I had all these great plans...then the children arrived. And I found I wasn't living up to my own (admittedly unreasonably high) expectations. I don't make organic baby food. My six-year-old is hooked on Cheetohs and Lucky Charms. And my baby likes to try to gnaw on our dog. What happened to the perfect mom I thought I would be? Fortunately I have close friends who admit that they've had the same doubts and struggles I've had--and we can laugh about it. And we do.
Reading Davidson's book is like a conversation with one of your oldest friends, the one who will tell you that your jeans do make your butt look big or that the brownies you baked are overdone. Her essays are honest, candid, and laugh-out-loud (or snort-out-loud) funny. After reading her book, you'll want to hear more from her--I'm looking forward to her next collection of essays.
This book is a collection of short stories which makes it easy to read. You can read one a day, or several a day. And they are very humorous. It is a good book to give as a gift to an adult friend to brighten their day as I think almost anyone can relate to one or more of the stories within these pages and likely get a good laugh at yourself. It also shows you that you don't have to be perfect, just be a mom. Give it a try, I am sure you will enjoy it, I sure did.
Lela Davidson's book "Blacklisted form the PTA" is great book which consists of 62 essays about parenting. Before I became parent, I had all great plans on parenting. Most of them were based on premise "I won't be my mother". In last 6 years I found myself in lot of situations which I dealt in the same way my mother did but also in a way which characterized me as not-so-good parent. While reading this book I became aware of situation that I'm normal, modern parent as that the other modern parents react in similar way.
Davidson's essays are honest, candid, and hysterically funny. In some situations I had to take my glasses and wiped my eyes - that's how much this book is funny. This is an easy and must read material for all parents because this is the state-of-the-art of modern parenting.
Blacklisted from the PTA is a fun, lighthearted, and laugh-out-loud funny account of typical life lessons and situations mothers face as their children grow. As a mom, I was able to relate to nearly everything in Lela's book, and found Blacklisted from the PTA funny enough in places to spawn a good laugh and even an occasional snort (to which my 11 year old informed me that I needed to stop reading it in public because I was embarrassing her).
Each topic is organized in a quick, easy to read format, so even the busiest of moms can easily find time to read this book during those moments spent waiting in the car-rider line, or at the doctor's office.

There is really nothing to dislike about this book. I read it for one of my bookclubs and found it to be funny. As a mom and now grandmom, I can relate to some of the struggles of the author as she raises her children. I find this age of helicopter parenting to be a little frightening. What will these children do when they have to make decisions on their own? What will they do with themselves when they are faced with time that is not planned for them down to the second? When is there time to daydream and be creative? The author takes on some of these questions and more.
